The Surselva is a really unique area. No other alpine region can compete with the variety of minerals found there and their astonishing beauty - It is one of a kind. Localities like Val Giuv and the Cavradi-Gorge are not the only reasons for locals and visitors to make their way up there- The Tujetsch in particular offers a huge variety of valleys, each of them with its very own features and most diverse range of minerals. The name Millarite is closely connected to the Val Mila, where it becomes obvious to every Mineral Collector that it is not a recent tendency to explore these sites in search of alpine treasures. Strahlen has a long tradition there. Through this website, I would like to take you on a journey through these valleys with its luminous peaks and glaciers. For some years now, I´ve been making my way through the Tujetsch Mountains and my excitement has been growing more and more each year.
It doesn´t have to be the big trove to remember certain moments for your whole life. A tiny Smoky Quartz or matrixpiece, laboriously removed from a wall, is precious enough. And even if you have to return empty-handed, you are surrounded by beautiful scenery, where you get rewarded for the long and hard ascent by an incredible view.
I have captured many of my impressions in pictures for you to see in the Gallery. Please note that I have visited each of the valleys numerous times and creating a home page is time-consuming...so I apologise for some blank spaces left. I´m pretty sure that rainy winters will give me the time to publish my experiences of past Strahler Seasons on this page and increase the content. Should anybody want to give feedback - whether good or bad - feel free to send me an Email. I´m willing to include suggestions (if possible).
I would also recommend taking a look at my Online-Mineral-Shop once in a while. There, I´m offering mainly minerals from the Surselva and the Swiss Alps, which I found during my Strahler trips through the area. Since every crystal has an individual background, you will get the exact locality of the acquired mineral, as well as additional information with pictures, if available. I´m sure you are all familiar with this scenario: the day you don´t take packing material or a camera with you, of course you´ll find something delicate or a special motif.
Enjoy!
